Here we can explain, what is covered in your breakdown insurance policy.

Standard breakdown cover, ( Roadside)

  • Roadside breakdown cover, will assist you up to 1/4 of a mile from your own home, with some packages you can extend the distance.

  • Your breakdown company will try and fix your vehicle in asset time, this is usually around 30 minutes or so. If there are any part of fuel needed to get you back on the road, you'll have to pay for them out of your pocket unfortunately.

  • Standard roadside will cover your vehicle to be recovered to the nearest local garage.

  • Your breakdown company will not charge, when you call them for assistance, it's part of a roadside breakdown cover policy.

  • Some breakdown companies especially Green Flag will call your friends and family members to tell them you have broken down but you are in no apparent danger with their Message Service.

Vehicle Recovery

  • In addition to Roadside, vehicle recovery allows you and your vehicles to be recovered anywhere in the UK mainland in their including England Ireland and Wales. Vehicle recovery usually covers caravans and trailers but you we are size and weight restrictions do apply.

  • Vehicle recovery will also will ensure you and up to 7 other people travelling with you to any UK mainland. It is usually up to a maximum legal carrying capacity, so if the recovery vehicle has 14 seats on board, you will be able to recover 14 people. Overall 7 persons is usually a maximum.

  • Home callout allows you to call your breakdown provider when your car breaks down at your home.

Onward Travel

  • If you breakdown you'll get a new car to complete the rest of your trip, you can usually keep the car for around two days max.

  • Onward travel will also pay insurance for any hire car if you need.

  • It may come down to it, where you need to get public transport, your breakdown service will pay for these travelling expenses.

  • If you breakdown and you can't get your car fixed that day, when your away from home. Your breakdown organisation will pay for hotel accommodation while your car is being fixed in the garage.

  • Please be aware that hotels and how long you stay in hotel depends on your breakdown company, you will get full details of this when you take breakdown insurance out.
